Why smartwatches will always be a luxury or second rate convenience and never replace smartphones as the mainstay.

I keep seeing people and videos saying that smartwatches will replace smartphones soon. But I think that they are definitely wrong. In my opinion, smartwatches will NEVER be able to replace smartphones UNTIL the following technologies are improved enough and one of them MUST be perfected.

1) Nanotechnology. Why? To be able to fit all the power and capacity and features of a smartphone into a small smartwatch. For example, the storage capacity and the CPU processing power of a smartphone.

2) Sound amplification technology. Why? Because with such a small speaker, you’re going to find it hard to create the necessary sounds loudly enough for the user to hear it.

3) Microphone sensitivity and echo nullification technology. Why? Because with such a small microphone, you’re going to need it to be more sensitive to be able to catch your voice. And echo nullification is a must because of the final technology that MUST be perfected.

4) Voice recognition, speech-to-text and voice command technology MUST be perfected! Why? Because nobody is going to be able to type on a tiny thing like a smartwatch like they can on a smartphone! So it must be able to recognize your voice and filter out all other voices and sounds except the registered voices. Then it must get rid of the echo as I said earlier. This is to facilitate clear voice recognition and command. Then it must be able to convert your speech into perfect text. It must also be able to take voice commands because nobody is going to be able to tap on anything on such a tiny smartwatch. It must be able to tell you your options clearly too or let you scroll through them by voice command.

Also, smartwatches will always be a luxury rather than the mainstay simply because what can be done on a tiny smartwatch can always be done better and for cheaper on the bigger smartphone since it has more physical space and requires less miniaturization.

So all in all, smartwatches are mainly just for show or if you want the convenience of being able to wear it on your wrist. But there will definitely be no gaming on a smartwatch until you can somehow create a touch sensitive projected screen or something similar. It’s just too small otherwise.

Smartwatches will mostly be like a companion device to the smartphone instead, where the smartphone and smartwatch can link up and synchronize with each other and function in tandem to provide a better user experience as well as more features and more efficiency, becoming more versatile.

Smartwatches do have an advantage being strapped to the wrist however, as this allows them to take heart rate and blood pressure readings in real-time. In the future, more kinds of readings can possibly be included as well. Of course medical readings in real-time is not all that a smartwatch will be capable of nor should it be. It should be like a mini wrist mounted computer with perfect voice recognition and voice command capabilities. This will allow smartwatches to be a very useful device on the go.

However, this will not change the fact that smartwatches will never replace smartphones as the mainstay device.

Finally, both the smartphone and the smartwatch should also be accompanied by a smarttablet. Why? Because although many people may disagree due to the tablet’s dying popularity and its not being as powerful a laptop, the tablet is convenient as it has much more physical space to pack in a lot of technology into. You can think of it as a super sized smartphone. If you add in an accurate and adjustable touch pen, it can even be used for art work on the go, online tutoring on the go, online learning/schooling on the go, among many other possible uses. All due to it having the perfect size and design for it. And if you add in the ability to link up and synchronize with a smartphone and/or a smartwatch, you’ll have a nice combination of 3 very functional and useful devices for those who can afford it. And for those who can only afford 2 devices, a smarttablet is the way to go as you can also incorporate all smartphone and some smartwatch features into a smarttablet, which would mean that you could make telephone calls and VoIP voice and/or video calls using a smarttablet as well.

Also, the smarttablet will be able to have more storage space and better CPU specs on it. And since all 3 of these devices will require voice recognition of registered voices and the entry of a new registered voice will require voice recognition of a currently registered user and if possible a facial scan (unless it’s in its pre-set up state), this will make breaking into these devices much harder. Also, since they are linked and synchronized, if the data stored on 1 device is lost, it will have already been backed up on at least 1 other device, depending on whether the user has 2 or all 3 of them.

So, should one device be stolen or lost, the user can use the other device to tell the stolen device to backup its data to subscribed cloud services and then to delete all its data by overwriting it multiple times with random data if its using a HDD or to simply overwrite the data with random data if its using an SSD. Or to even overwrite the entire storage, OS, settings and data included. Of course, safe and secure cloud services for the user to backup their data to should be available for the user to choose from and subscribe to, and all these 3 devices will share the same cloud services. This will allow the user to get the service center to reinstall the OS if they manage to retrieve their device, or buy a new device and restore the data (and the settings if it’s from the same line as the model they lost) with the peace of mind that their stolen data was already all properly deleted.
